Christmas Letter 2015

December 9, 2015

Greetings, friends, we hope you are well as Christmas approaches.

Kay and I enjoyed a tri20150928_133540656_iOSp to northern England in the early fall, hiking the Hadrian’s Wall Path, which is an 84-mile national trail from one side of the country to the other. We overnighted in bed and breakfasts, supped in pubs, walked 6 to 12 miles a day, and saw the beautiful northern countryside (photo), including a glimpse of Scotland across the Firth of Solway. The Romans built the wall, but most of it is long gone.

Kay retired from her library director position at Baker University on July 1, after working there 39 years. The England trip celebrated both of our retirements. She’s now doing research on aspects of the history of her church, Plymouth Congregational Church of Lawrence.

George came out of retirement to take a job as canon pastor for the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas, getting an opportunity to work closely with Bishop Dean Wolfe and to help with pastoral care of clergy. It is a good challenge after the very different years of being a professor-priest. The position is part-time.

Tory continues middle school science teaching in the Olathe, Kansas, school district and was recognized as the district teacher of the month in November. Her husband Chris is a copy editor in the sports department of the Kansas City Star. Duncan continues to work in various restaurants in Lawrence, and we enjoy occasional visits with him and his girlfriend Cami. Joanna exercises her gifts in vocal music as director of the Potluck Singers and was able to have a long stay with us early in the year, getting a break from the New Hampshire winter. We are at:

2313 Willow Crk, Lawrence, KS 66049-2644, 785-813-3149 (George), and we’re both on Facebook.
